We as a Nation thank our industry partners for investing their time and resources to aid our organization in creating a platform for open dialogue and support for a mutually beneficial relationship. Our Annual Reviews, Industry Planning Sessions and Cultural Exchanges create important opportunities to work collaboratively to improve our community. Thank you to our valued industry partners!
Elders and single parents cut monthly costs by using traditional methods as a form of fuel. There are many our Citizens who use wood as main source of heat in their homes. Our wood program takes the pressure off
our elderly and working single parents to go out and gather wood. WLMN contracts Citizens to help supply, cut and stack wood for our elders etc.
This is our 16th Annual Metis Festival. We have visitors from as far away as Edmonton to Northwest Territories. Our event is bigger and well attended every year. 95% of volunteers and Lead Coordinators are Citizens of Willow Lake Metis. This event allows the WLM to showcase out heritage, culture with dance and song and engage everyone with games and food etc.
This community driven event allows all Citizens to participate in retaining our Metis culture. WLM identified Cultural retention as one of the top priories for their families and community. This event will allow us collectively to harvest our lands. We stay day and night, so our elders can teach our youth how to harvest animals, medicinal medicine, foods and share in storytelling. We also show our youth how to prepare what we harvest for food and medicine. Recording and documenting are very important. A land use report is completed at the end of these camps. We have 2 per year.
